When we retain excess water in our bodies, our arms, legs, and stomachs swell and we experience a feeling of lethargy and heaviness. But what causes it? More importantly, can it be treated? The following are a few tips on how to lose water weight the safe way:
-Ironically, the more we drink, the more we get rid of excess water in the body. Because of this, you should always carry with you a handy water bottle so you can give yourself several gulps wherever and whenever you need to. A handy 32- or 64-ounce beverage container is perfect, and make sure to consume water in 1 or 2 of these daily.
-Keep off the salt. Stay away from salty foods as sodium exacerbates the situation. Particularly notorious foods are salted nuts, olives, junk foods, potato chips, and several types of frozen food. Less obvious foods that are nonetheless high in sodium and should therefore be avoided are cheeses, ketchup, deli offerings, and soy sauce.
-Keep off sugary foods as well. You can reduce water retention by lessening your daily sugar intake. Cut down on cookies, cakes, ice cream, and syrups. Soda is also a no-no, and diet sodas arent much help, either. How to lose water weight without depriving your sweet tooth? Gnaw on fruits instead.
-Squeeze in some lime. Adding a touch of lemon or lime to your water does the trick. -Dont overdo slimming. Again, here is another irony: Excessive cutting down on calories aggravates water retention. Make it a point to eat more than 1,200 calories a day, and include lean meat as protein. You may possibly lose weight due to a drastic reduction in calories, but youll retain water as a consequence if dieting is overdone.
-Exercise a lot. Swelling of the extremities is also caused by a sedentary lifestyle. You need to move around more to help you sweat and get rid of perspiration plus the excess sodium in your body. When you dont exercise enough, the lymphatic system cant drain out excess fluid and toxins from your body. Take up swimming if you cant decide on how to lose water weight. The relaxation will do you good.
-Eat three small meals rather than three big meals daily. Nibbling several times a day keeps you hydrated and nourished and prevents the rush of fluid to the tissues, which normally happens when one takes huge meals.
